campaign "Save The Yazidis: The World Has To Act Now" to
raise awareness about the tragedy of the Yazidis (also known as Ezidi and Yezidi*) in Sinjar and the
humanitarian emergency that continues to unfold.

International (DI) is pleased to announce the launch of the campaign Clean
Cooking Solutions in the MENA region to raise awareness among women
and girls in the Middle East and North Africa region about the
dangers of relying on inefficient cookstoves and fuels that have a
huge impact on human health in the region.
DI is partner of the Global
Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, an initiative led by the United
Nations foundation to mobilize high-level national and donor
commitments toward the goal of universal adoption of clean cookstoves
Defend International President Dr. Widad Akrawi
believes that the only light at the end of the Syrian tunnel is to give
peace a chance. In an interview with the Iranian journalist Mr.
Kourosh Ziabari, she called on the international community to assist this
population in this time of need, urging "countries to help all communities in
Syria so that they can engage in a constructive dialogue that would hopefully resolve the
conflict peacefully, leading ultimately to reconciliation and real reforms."

Defend International (DI) is alarmed by reports that hundreds
of Kurdish political prisoners in Turkey have started a hunger strike to
protest prison conditions, unfair trial practices and racial discrimination
while the Turkish authorities
continue to deny the prisoners access to qualified medical care. DI urges
the authorities to provide the prisoners access to qualified medical care, and
anyone in serious condition must be referred instantly to a hospital where the necessary treatment should begin promptly.

The arbitrary detention of DI member Mr. Mustafa
Ismail in Syria in 2009 had caused great concern among our members worldwide.
DI promoted a joint action
against the authorities' oppression on human rights supporters and called on the
authorities for Mr. Ismail's immediate and unconditional release. On June 2, 2011, he was released and welcomed home by his wife, children, and friends.

Mr. Hossein Khezri
Defend International was informed
by reliable sources that Mr. Hossein Khezri, a Kurdish political activist was at imminent risk of execution on 14 April 2010. He was accused of being a mohareb ("enemy of God") and "endangering state security".
